18 April – 20 Oktober 2024 | Special exhibition area Forum Wissen
How does a “plaster” for the heart work? How can we hear with the help of light? And what is the path from basic research to diagnosis and therapy? The “Heart & Brain – Understanding together” exhibition gets to the bottom of these questions
The exhibition presents state-of-the-art microscopy techniques that allow researchers to “look inside” cells and tissue. Visitors are invited on a journey through the visual worlds of modern microscopy. Films produced especially for the exhibition, interactive applications and tactile models offer a wide range of insights into the interdisciplinary research of the scientists of the Cluster of Excellence “Multiscale Bioimaging: from molecular machines to networks of excitable cells (MBExC)” at the Georg-August-University and the University Medical Center Göttingen. The Cluster of Excellence investigates the connections between heart and brain diseases using the latest imaging techniques
Discover surprising similarities!
The MBExC focuses on electrically excitable heart muscle and nerve cells, which have a surprising number of similarities. The aim is to investigate these in order to study and understand both systems and their functions in an overall approach, from the molecule to the organ. The smallest cellular building blocks and networks enable the complex functions of an organ and play a key role in the development of diseases. On this basis, new approaches are being developed for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the heart, brain or both organs.
The exhibition takes visitors on a journey through the origins and development processes of scientific findings and illustrates the social relevance of this research, which focuses on people.
